What is the difference in inventory between a grocery store and a clothing store?
Asked by Tiffany B
And how would that impact valuation? This question deals with accounting.
A:
Best Answer:
-probably the amount of depletion or rotting of inventory versus theft and "fabrication" to start with
Valuation would depend on the initial historical costs of the above less the probability of inventory not being sold (and rotting concerning food), and other things like miscounts and theft (for both food and other inventory). Disregarding theft, I would say the main difference is based on demand for the item, the type of inventory , and its popularity when considering other factors like obsolescence while also keeping in mind that fact that accountants normally record inventory at historical cost that is only adjusted for certain things - like exchange rates and different currencies and estimates (usually adjusted down in value according to what's called the LCM rule - lower cost or market).

A:
The biggest difference is that groceries are perishable. Therefor, they must be sold quickly or be thrown away. Extra expenses are incurred per item due to higher levels of employment needed to ensure this timely turnover.

There several differences between grocery and cloths.
1 will all have sale tax, grocery's some have no sale tax and some thing are such as a sandwich but not bread.
2 grocery there is more of a loss due to rotten etc" time sensitive".
3 Cloth are stock and more like pre purchased most grocery's stock is placed and not payed for buy the store till it is sold, that and a lot of the labor is free or there vendors.
