Electrician exam, is is necessary and how do I find it?
Asked by Litayia J
A friend wants to become an Electrician. We hear there is a test that needs to be taken before you can start your career as one. Does any of you know about this exam and any websites that I can find information. Is this exam necessary, if not how do I get started? Thanks in advance!

Best Answer:
to be a licensed electrician, you need to take a local codes test, you can find out when/where/how much at your local town hall. if he's compeletely new at this, he can take a job as an apprentice (glorified gofer) with a company without being licensed. there are books on local codes to pass the test, but experience is best for complete understanding.

The first test for electrician is that your butt crack must rise above your pant line when you bend over.

In most states you have to have a couple years hands on training or graduate from a Tech School before they will let you take the test. Find a contractor who is looking for Helpers. You would learn how to do all the crap work first, then as you prove your self they would teach more. When you are ready the company usaully pays for the test, which is a few hundred US dollars.

Most States have an examination and length of work requirement for licensing, however some have minimal or even no requirements. Go to the link below, and go to the licensing page, and then to individual state licensing requirements. The info there. will help you find anything you need for the electrical trade. Good Luck
