How can I become a personal assistant or social secretary without having already been one?
Asked by mahkat929
I'm not looking to be an assistant to a celebrity or anything. Currently I am the Executive assistant to the CEO and VP of a company. I enjoy what I do but I really enjoy the days when i'm more of a personal assistant than an executive assistant. None of the placement firms want you without at least 2 years having already been a personal assistant already. I have all the needed demonstrated skills except the in home experience. My resume is solid, I even have steller ref's but I can't get an agency to look at me and all reply's to postings end up at an agency. Any idea's?

Are you getting through to the agencies? I would suggest that you send a photo and personal note to the hiring agency in addition to just your resume. Remember that is it just that type of thing you will have to do to execute your job.
Take a close look at your resume. Put the "personal assistant" information first in your job duties. Offer to take a reduced salary on a "trial" basis for 90 days to prove your worth.
Ask agencies if there are any temporary, part time type of in-home assignments you could take on - like planning a big party or some special event.
