What is the proper dress attire for a call center?

In a couple weeks I will be working in a call center. I'm afraid of being improperly dressed (whether it be under-dressed or over-dressed). Obviously we will not be meeting face-to-face with customers, but there still probably is some sort of dress code to keep employees looking and acting professional. Can anyone who has worked or currently works in a call center tell me what kind of attire is suitable for this job? Thanks!

Business casual is a good way to start or ask their HR before starting work. We ask our customer service staff to smile when on the phones. Show a positive "can do" attitude and take ownership of your customer's needs. It will define how you're "seen" by your customers. Dressing well (comfortable, semi-formal) also affects how you feel about yourself which affects how others see you.

Usually call centers are pretty casual.. I've worked in ones where pyjamas, sweatpants, (and in some cases) even costumes like superman capes were the norm. It's always better to err on the side of conservative and wear business casual as opposed to casual. But why not call your soon-to-be supervisor and just ask what type of clothing most co-workers wear?

The first day it is best to dress like you would for an office job. Then they will discuss "their dress code" with you. We had mostly casual dress, but sometimes we did dress up a bit (for corporate).

for the first day, go office casual. slacks & button shirt, with or without a tie for men, probably no jacket necessary, and skirt & blouse or nice slacks for women. Just don't go in jeans, T-shirt, and athletic shoes. that's usually a no-no for any office job.

Business casual is the norm these days. That means shirt with a collar, no jeans, no running shoes. Suits and ties aren't necessary.

overalls, a bud light tshirt and a smoke in your mouth...shoes are suggested but not necessary

i work in a call center and as long as you dress appropriate( no mini skirts, no shirts with obscenity, no jeans with holes) as long as you're clean...i usually wear jeans and a sweatshirt, you don't have to over dress, like a tie and sunday shoes; then again every work place is different..but they will probably give you a dress code...hope it helped. good luck

well, if you are the chris that works for Embarq I think you should wear nothing because you have a very sexy voice. So: birthday suit would be appropriate, we can't see you anyway, we are just imagining!
