What would be a good part time job for somebody that wants to become better at communicating?
Asked by MindyCindyLindy
I'm going to school full time, but I want a part-time job. I want to work in international relations, but really want to improve my communication and people skills. Bascially I have to become a master with people and conversation. So which job would offer that? I mean if I'm gonna work maybe I could get something more than money out of it right? I'll list some, but if you have a better idea please feel free to post. Convergy's-lots of money- Talk on the phone with strangers and help them with problems they may have with e-mail sevices or whatnot.-I hate sitting- Bartender/waitress-tips- Interacting with groups of men and women routinely-can be more charismatic- BUT i'm pretty and do not need a fat hairy old man trying to slap my ass! Waitress-normal resturant- tips- working with older people- I reaaly want to get away from the food industry Receptionist-sitting(grrrr)-liitle more money- acting fake and perpetually happy life guard-fun but mostly liitle kids

OK, you're going to shoot me but take a job as counter help at a fast food joint for a while. Communications in two side and working in a hectic environment taking orders from all types of people with all types of accents and then conveying those instruction on accurately is actually very good practice and since you are still in school very doable on a part time basis and easy to get. You don't have to do it for long, I know you want out of the food industry, but try it for 3 months, I guarantee you'll be on your way to verbal communication expertise. After that I suggest telephone solicitation or help desk. PS I am a fat hairy old man and have never ever in my life even thought of slapping someones as*. I've seen much more of that with young guys who has a waitress that is flirting with them. I actually kind of resent that remark.

Working at trade shows is a great training but not easy work to find. Contact companies that sponsor trade shows in your area for some help.

Call center or retail. You will come up against the worst people to deal with. The experience you would gain would be priceless.

I sell Pampered Chef - which puts you on a face to face business base with consumers. You sell products - talk people through steps - communication is a must. You also make your own schedule while going through school . . . . I am a full time student and this lets me plan my own work schedule with very little stress.
