The beauty of the information age is that you can contact periodicals via email. I would begin by editing a College Newspaper, write articles for Magazines. Write in to your favorite Magazines, write Opinion Editorials, Send out a Curriculum Vitae and enclose copies of some of your best and most relevant articles for the job. Many Hip-Hop sites and Magazines are always looking for writers, you say you are into Fashion, there is your start. Most writers avoid this venue due to the reputation, I see it as an opportunity. Good luck

Your best bet to make money as a writer is to freelance. The following site has some links to services that have freelance writing opportunities where you can browse assignments and then offer to do the job and negotiate your pay. Good luck.
