Skilled Trades : What's the difference between an apprentice and a helper? (ELECTRICIAN)?

I am considering switching trades (think I'd make a fine electrician) - I see ads all the time for 'electrician's helper' - what's the difference between a helper and an apprentice?

an apprentice is in training to become an electrician a helper is just that unless he goes to school he will never be an electrician
