Most community colleges provide the course work for this. You will need CPR also. If you want to talk to someone, start at the fire station. All firefighters are either EMT's or paramedics, and they will be happy to share information with you. Hope this helps! Good luck! Its a very rewarding career choice!

People like to talk about themselves, and most of them like to mentor others as well. You should be asking not only how to become and EMT but what's involved in actually being one. The best source of that information is an EMT.
If, in your city, EMT's are a part of the FD, then go to any fire house and ask. If there are no EMT's in that house, someone will let you know which houses do have EMT's. If they are part of the ambulance service, then the same type of thing applies. If that person has time then and there to start discussing this with you, then start asking. If not, make an appt to come by another time and ask or ask if you could possibly meet with that person when they're not on duty.
Basically, show an interest and your questions will be answered.

take a short course for EMT requirements at a college, or talk to an ambulance company. they will point you in the correct direction. do you want to pursue anything beyond this though. this is usually the first stage to move beyond EMT to fireman or other medical fields.
