What's more important to a college student- Job experience or Money?
Asked by madison8278
In May, I will be graduating from college with an Associates Degree in Counseling. Recently, I finished two internships-- One as a Drug & Alcohol Counselor and the other as a Life Skills Teachers. Both experiences were highly beneficial. I've been looking for a job in the field for the past 3 months and haven't found anything suitable. So I have agreed to take this part time job at an assisted living facility as a Dietary Aide. They pay $13.89 per hour. Is that good pay?
Family and friends are urging me to re-think this, as they have found other job opportunites for me online at a Child Care Center and would like me to apply.
I don't know what to do. I need the money but don't want to mess up my future. Please help!
If I don't like this job and get the job at the Day Care Center. I can always quit, right? Without it looking bad?

$13.89 sounds good to me-- it depends on your situation, though. Would that be enough for you to live on and pay your bills? A job at a Child Care Center would almost certainly pay less, so I wouldn't take that unless that is the direction you want to be going in. Those jobs are typically $6-8 an hour and I'm not kidding you. By all means keep your options open and keep an eye peeled for better opportunities, but in the meantime being paid a decent wage isn't a bad thing.
Good luck!

At the beginning of your career life experience is very important, after a while believe me experience equals money.
so don't be in a hurry, your curve must go up in both
1-experience
2-money
Good luck

Get the job experience that pertains and relates to your major. The little bucks now don't matter when your job experience will help you score a solid job later on. Also, 14$ is pretty good, but stick with what will help you.
