Ideas on how to become comfortable in a store manager position while an assistant manager?
Asked by Kristen H
My DM wants me to come up with some ideas on how I can become more comfortable and gain experience as a Store Manager. I am currently being promoted to assistant manager which is basicaly a training program for future managers. Her idea was for me to take over another store while the manager is on vacation for a week. She wants my ideas tomorrow and I'm at a loss on this one. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Being comfortable in any situation is basically being yourself. I think your manager isn't completely right in putting you in the position of managing a store before you've had the opportunity to train for it. Maybe she sees something special in you and feels you can handle it. If you have the basic idea of what a manager does then that helps. Are you comfortable in being firm but fair. Aware, but not overly cautious. Astute and analytical, with a good mathematical mind. If you possess these qualities then the job is yours.
