How soon should I start looking for work in another state before moving?
Asked by catlover
I am planning on moving to another state. I want to move in approximately two or three months and I want to find a job there before I move. How soon should I start looking for a job? I have already signed up for Careerbuilder.com and it has helped but how soon should I start applying for jobs that I'm interested in if I want to move in two or three months?

I would say a month before you plan to live there. Most places who advertise a position would like to have someone hired within a month of that position opening. Some exceptions though, like the government. I applied for a job w/ the government back in October and haven't heard anything yet. So I called and was told they haven't gotten around to interviews yet. Read online newspapers of your new area now, to get a feel for what places are hiring and where you think you may like to work. If you find one that really jumps out at you, send your resume now, but put something in the cover letter stating you won't be living there for a few months.
