Mt Isa Mines would be your best option. I knew a guy years ago who lived in Brisbane, but lost his drivers license, so moved up there. He got a job as a pipe-layer in the mines, and worked differant shifts, so he was earning really good money. I'm sure that there would be a website, which would tell you how he can apply. I think he would need some sort of "physical" work experience. My brother-in-law, and my uncle are both miners and have worked at several differant mines, but are both tradesmen from years ago. Mines don't only take on miners, but they employ various tradesmen for other jobs

You don't need experience in the mining industry. For goodness sake, you're just hacking into stone.

Find some recruitment agents who specialize in the mining industry. They should be able to fix you both up with something. Once you get into one project, you can get into any.

Go for a learning course in heavy machinery at one of the paid teaching sites. I think there is one in Clermont. Once he receives the ticket you will find the trainers will offer him places to go to look for work. This is usually the best way otherwise you need to know a working on site union member.

All you need is an recruitment agent they will get you up there :) they are screaming for people at the moment try www.seek.com.au or www.thewest.com.au to give you and idea. Good luck. try and find one near a town other wise you will go insane also (ask for accomodation as it can be very pricey) eg Karratha or Newman
