A Commonwealth Attorney is on staff to answer legal issues for a municipality, such as a town or a county. As such, the Commonwealth Attorney should be expected to know where to find state and local laws and regulations, including criminal, civil and commercial. A Commonwealth Attorney should be capable of writing opinions to guide local lawmakers and is expected to represent the government entity in court.
