I'm applying for a courier postion, and have alreay taken a few tests given after filling out the application.

They don't have to get in touch with you at all, and many employers don't. It's very frustrating. You don't know the results of your tests, or if they have checked your references. The general advice is: keep your name in front of the employer. Send a follow-up letter after your interview, or call the hiring person. That's a bit risky, but if you really want the job it shows them you are interested.
