What is the difference between a phlebotomist and a phlebotomy technician?
Asked by Kris
...or are they the same thing?

A:
Best Answer:
Phlebotomy is the practice of.....and Phlebotomist is the title of the person doing the blood work. Which is what I do all day long, in addition to my other nursing duties. But the way you worded it....they are one in the same person.

A:
I believe a phlebotamist draws blood according to dr's orders, knowing how much blood they need to fill the vials...and the technician does the tests.

A:
It would depend on the hosital, as they can use titles as they see fit. While a phlebotomist would be the one to draw blood, a phlebotomy tech could conceiveably be just someone who works in the lab with them, ie. Pharmacist and Pharmacy Tech.
