How can I become a registered nurse?
Asked by allison_cofer21
I have been looking everywhere on how to become a registered nurse. I've called colleges and all they tell me is to call other places and find out. It's like the whole world has no idea! I don't want to get finacial aid, because I already owe some and can't withdraw anymore. Is there any certificate programs that I can take online to become one? Someone help me!

Have you tried your State Board of Nursing for a reference? If you want an online college, try Excelsior College. They are very highly regarded. That's where my wife got her ASN. It prepared her really well for the Boards (LPN and, a few years later, RN). Excelsior is not cheap but if you can afford their fees, you will get an excellent education.
Good luck. I hope you find what you need.

Any community college would offer nursing classes. Don't go to bargain TV schools. You don't say where you are located, but most larger colleges have programs as do some hospitals. Contact the nursing recruiter at your local hospital.

When all is said and done, you don't get good stuff cheap. This is true for education as it is for anything else. If you want to be an R.N., contact a community college or univeristy that offers a nursing program, bite the bullet, and find a way to pay for a GOOD education. There ARE grants and scholarships out there - school doesn't have to mean debt.

There are always options. It shouldn't be hard to find an online school that can get you started with a few credited courses. At the very least, you can get some prerequisites done with a minimum of cost. You've got to work harder without financial aid or loans to help you out. Take a few classes at a time to fit your budget, and slowly work towards your goal.
Try not to settle for being an LPN, even though it may be an easier option.

This depends on where you are located. In the US you can contact your State's Board of Nursing. They can give you a list of schools in your area. In my area there are like 4 RN schools. You can get financial aid if you don't make more than 40000 usually. Good Luck.

I am a registered nurse. Looks like you are going to have to go to a college and take out some student loans. Don't think certificate programs for nurses exist and I am glad. I wouldn't want a nurse taking care of me that was not properly trained. You can always get a associate degree from a community college, and if you have a prior degree some of your classes may transfer.
