Career Questions and Answers
I have a B.A. in Marketing/Advertising and Promotions. I need to start working ASAP. Where should I start?
Asked by KC
I really like working with children. I love the law but I don't have money right now to go back to school for anything else. If I do use my degree what area in Advertising can I go into. I thought about Graphic Design but do I really want to do that?! I live here in NC where and what should I do? Thanks.

well, if you're not in it for the money, graphic design is a decent place to start, provided you have experience with quark, photoshop, illustrator, pagination systems, and the like. i, personally, recommend sales...that's where the money is. you can probably get your foot in the door at your local newspaper (which is where i started my advertising career in sales and was making $75k+ by the time i was in for 3 years at the age of 24.). newspapers will typically give you a protected list, territory, category, or combination of those. radio is a great way to make lots of money if you are ambitious and disciplined enough. i hated it...too hard. you typically won't start with an account list and it's a free-for-all in terms of category and territory. hope that info helps.

Your college may have a placement service to help you.
First. Get your resume written
Second: Have someone else read it to make sure it makes sense and eveything on it is true, spelled correctly and is in proper english.
Third: Go online and look for ads, Monster, Yahoo, Career Builder etc.
Fourth: Network with your friends, parents, parent's friends anyone you know
Fifth: Try temp agencies
Sixth: Look in the paper
Seventh: Go online to specific companies to see if they have openings - apply
eight: GO to Government sites to see what jobs are open
Nine: Be flexible
Good Luck
