You will need your own authority it run your own company. You can go to your local DOT website and it should point you in the right direction you will also need to check your local state web site to see what they require you to do to start your own company, such as filing for your company name and tax id number. I happen to set my own company up, but there are many services out there that will get your paper work started for a price. Make sure weight out your options before using a services they are pricey and you can do it all yourself. Do not do d/b/a (doing business as) file as a corporation from the word go. LLC is basically the same as a corporation it just cost you more to file as LLC (limited liability company) File as an S corp not a C and you want to be CASH and not ACCRUAL (your accountant should ask you these questions) Good luck to you and keep all 18 planted!

I drove truck for 7 years long-haul & all I ever was was an owner operator. I bought a truck, went to the closest weigh station (my case an ODOT office) & found out what I had to do to licnese it, etc. It really wasn't that hard. Just make sure that you have customers who will continue to use you if you become "your own boss". The companies I dealt with were great & I never had any problems. Good Luck!
