How can I get catering gigs as a bartender?
Asked by curiousgirl
I'm a certified bartender, & I was wondering how you go about getting catering gigs (ie, parties, concerts, events & such)? I'd rather not work in a smokey bar (which is why I don't have a lot of experience & have done other jobs because of it), & I really only need temporary gigs at this point for extra money. Are they through individual companies? I've looked online, but I can never find any helpful information. If anyone has gotten such gigs, how did you search for them & get them? I would also be interested in working as a waitress as well, but would rather do bartending.

Advertise yourself on Craigslist. Otherwise I'd think you'd have to work for a catering company or somebody that offers bartending services.

Try Hotels with banquet rooms, the better the hotel, the better they pay. I worked as a bartender/server for a four star hotel in PA for about two years, and I got hired with no experience in bartending. With a hotel, you get steadier work, and it usually pays better than independent catering companies, plus there are more hotels around.

If I were you, I would get some business cards made up, and start going to wedding trade shows.
Set up a table and pass out your cards and put on your PR face.
Wedding bartenders keep busy and mostly work weekends and evenings. Tips are great too.
good luck

You better get your self registered with Placement Agencies, recruiting for reputed Banquettes and star Hotels. Being experienced bartender you shall not find difficult to switch over to job of your choice.
