Working in the oil field on the rigs is one of the hardest jobs you will ever love. The pay is very good, considering you only work 6 months a year and they feed you all you can stand to eat. You work 12 hours a day, and when you factor in the overtime, it is a decent wage. Salaries depend on what position you start in. Roustabouts and Roughnecks are the basic entry level positions. Roughnecks work on the rig floor, while Roustabouts are the "janitors" on a rig. Salaries will vary with experience. The best thing you can do to find out what they are is to call a drilling company and find out what the pay rate is as I have been out of the industry too long (I was paid $12/hour as a Roughneck back in the 80's).
