I was the General Manager of a company that went under due to the owners' divorce. What do I say on interviews
Asked by thebuffettour
The husband and wife were fighting horribly and it spilled into ever aspect of the business. I felt obligated to them since they brought me up through the ranks from general labor so I stayed until the end, but what do I say to people when they ask. I don't want to say I was running a business that went under, but I don't want to sound like I am blaming the owners either. Should I say that they decided to get a divorce and then had shut the business down in order to split it?

Simply state you were working for a family owned business that went under due to financial restraints; therefore, you have to find a new position. No biggie!
