It varies a lot depending on the state, district, years of experience, type of school, etc. Anywhere from $25,000 - $85,000. Most private schools pay less. Your major doesn't really impact your pay, but it may effect your ability to get a job. For instance, where I live there is a shortage of math and science teachers so if you are credentialed in one of those areas, you're good to go. I have 2 teaching credentials: science and history. I got tons of job offers for science positions and NONE for history.
I'm a teacher.

First year (depending where you live and at what district) for public school $25,000-35,000 Each year after they supposively give you a raise. If you have a master's degree in education, you get a small amount more every month (about $200 extra)
For a private school , you probably make the same or even more, depending on which city again.
If you teach overseas then you start at $21,000-25,000 (not worth the money).
if you teach privately you can charge up to $100 an hour for tutoring depending which subject.
If you teach at a college you need a Master's degree (depending on the major) or a doctoral and the salary is a lot higher for full time (depending if it is community college or a university) $40,000-$80,000 to start.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career.
