Provide incentives to your employees. Free meals are always nice. Give them goals. If they can make an order in so many minutes say, 10 times per shift. It works with my employees. Good luck!
I am a shift manager in the food service industry.

Nicely? I'm not sure you just say " Work faster, or you're fired."

Whip them. Make them work overtime. Tell them that you know where their families live and make threatening gestures. Ignore that "living wage" comment before me. You are paying them, right? Without you, they would be on their butts...so anything you do is "nice."
Seriously though...what do you expect for like $9 per hour?

There are several options. Here are just a couple:
1.) Threaten to fire them or lower their salary/wage if they don't improve their performance.
2.) Ask them to get a prescription for Adderall to keep them mentally stimulated during the work day.

Incentive pay...

Incentive work wonders. Give them a service level agreement you would like them to meet. Challenge them to meet it. If they do then reward them with a pizza party or free dinner or something. This is a good way to get them motivated and prove to you they can make it happen.
Then hope they keep it up. You may have to do it every so often when they start slacking again.

give them positive feedback when you notice that all or some of them are working quickly without talking. you could also have a meeting with your staff one day and address the issue head-on.

Offer them incentives to get the food out faster. Time them as to how long it takes now, and then establish a goal of cutting "x" off that time. If that goal is reached, then everyone gets an afternoon off, a bonus of some amount or something else that would mean somthing to them.

well if they constantly talk, why don't you fire them one at a time and hire and train new ones. if you don't want to fire them then talk to them about it. also i would advise you that every once in a while ,throw them a party, like a Christmas party, new years party, and any thing else that you would like to celebrate with them. this will encourage and reward them for the work that they have done. or what ever way that you want to think of it.

You can motivate them through a reward/incentive scheme. It has been proven that a person's work performances increases whenever he/she is rewarded.
Inform them nicely but seriously that they have to prepare the food within a specific period of time, at the same time, the food must be served in good quality and customer service. Give them a reward, say a bonus, to staffs who consistantly perform well. You can also put up "An Employee of the Month" board in your restaurant, to increase their morale and in turn they can perform better.
If all of your employees are performing very well at work, reward all of them with a nice company event like a holiday trip to Las Vegas. With that, they can feel that their work are being appreciated and at the same time, your staffs can have a stronger bond with each other by introducing their family members. Think of your restaurant like one big happy family.

You seriously have to put your leadership and managerial skills into action, if you have followed a course for it.
If not, i can suggest a few practical tactics. Theorically you should have a leadership style.
You should motivate your staff to work by either showing your authority-if they do not help you acheive your business goals, you implore that you can fire them ! Organize a staff meeting, stress on your business goals and expectations and offer incentives to reward them for helping you acheive your company goals eg, the desired rate of performance gives a certain amount commision/raise. Its like politics! Praise the good ones,to get the others on your sides! Another strategy is to give the hardworking one a supervising responsibility.People like recognition and status and are stimulated to work hard for it, and others will follow. But be careful not to create a divison in such a competive environment! I agree with the previous commentor, that you should maintain the spirit of team work in your company otherwise everything will fall apart. If the overall performance improves from your new strageties, reward the whole team with a trip or any social event so that your staff can interact more in a casual atmosphere. That's what corporate companies have been doing for ages.
Another hint, by knowing your staff and their values, you know best what motivates them and what incentive will drive them!
Good Luck!
