I want to return to work part time after my maternity leave?
Asked by louise
I was employed by my company as a manager and have been on maternity leave. I am hoping when my baby is around 7 months old to return to work part time. I know I need to apply in writting but any tips or advise on how to make it hard for them to refuse and what to do if they do refuse. Will I have to return full time straight away or can I still take the full year?

Every employer has a legal obligation to consider part time work requests. However the employee needs to make it realistic too so thats the biggest tip I can give you! Remember that if your company refuses your request they have to have sound business reason for doing so - the cannot just flatly refuse it. And you can still take the full year - that is your right.

Reed in Partnership specialise in returning mothers back to work. You could ring them and ask for advice. They are a private organisation sponsored by the government: http://www.reedinpartnership.co.uk/
