Commercial pilots are expected to have accumulated a good number of flight hours to be considered for hiring. The actual number will vary depending on whether you are seeking an airline position , a private charter company flying passengers, or flying cargo. The training can get very costly, just as picking up the hours needed can be costly over time. Many people do acquire experience & training from the military as their training & documentation is well respected.
My father has been a pilot for over 30 years, & has operated a private air charter firm. Also operated a flight school for many years.
