I have yet to meet an employer who won't give you 24 hours to consider a job offer, and some will give you as much as 72 hours to answer. You shouldn't take more than 72 hours to make up your mind.

Usually if you tell them you need to think it over and ask when they need answer.......they will let you know. Some employers want an answer right away......it depends on bad they really want you. I would say no more than a couple days.

If you have to consider factors like relocation or taking a pay cut, a day or two would be reasonable. I would try to keep it 24 hours or less, but give them a definite time that you will let them know by. If there are no major negative factors to consider, a delay may be seen as them being played to get a raise at your current job and the offer could be withdrawn.

It is good to let them know within a 2-5 day window. But don't delay... you don't want to miss a great opportunity!
