do local truck drivers get paid the same as otr drivers?

I do OTR trucking and bring home a lot more than ones that do local. I leave out early on Monday's and come home on Friday night. I save a lot of money on food because I have a fridge on my truck, along with a tv and dvd player, satellite radio, and cb. I usually spend about a hundred bucks a week on food, laundry, and showers, and bring home between nine and eleven hundred a week, so it's worth it. I also drive a flat bed which pays more and is in more demand. I run mostly the southern states. Another big thing is that a lot of local companies have you driving different trucks every day or someone else drives your truck while you are off. I have my own truck and no one else even has a set of keys. OTR is the only way to go if you are going to drive a truck. I love it.

NO. OTR drivers can get paid by the mile and keep moving. Local drivers have a lot of idle time and they would lose money. If a driver goes more than 150 miles from home base their insurance goes up. So, the expense is different for each also.

I know quite a lot of truckers. OTR drivers earn more, but local drivers take home more. This is because they do not spend on 3 meals every day, laundry on the road, motels (even with a sleeper cab you need a real bed and a shower every other day). And local drivers are home every night.
