'My husband is a truck driver in Dubai now. Is there a job in New Zealand or USA for him?

My husband has been a driver of heavy duty truck or trailer for more than 20 years now. He has worked in Iraq during 1984, In Saudi Arabia and presently in Dubai right now. He wants to work in New Zealand or USA. Is there a possibility he can apply there? Thanks.

There is a shortage of drivers in the States right now. Part of the problem is that the big companies have managed to keep the pay relatively low for the amount of time that the drivers stay away from home. While there are some drivers that get home every night, and many drivers that get home on weekends, there is a growing amount of drivers that are gone for over a week at a time. Wages for drivers has not grown like other wages in the economy. The shortage is going to get worse in that a large portion of the workforce is due for retirement soon. There is a radio station ( www.700wlw.com ) that is available on the internet ( 0100-0600 EST ) it has a trucking industry nationwide talk and music show. They discuss the questions, problems in the industry, etc.
