About how much money can be made in Hospitality Management?
Asked by tean
I have been a Paralegal for 7 years working with private and government agencies. I am now considering a career change. I'm leaning towards Hospitality. I know that it will be a pay cut, but I want something that involves people other than criminals and divorcees.

Depends on your postion and the size of the property. A general manager can make a low 6 figure income. I worked at a hotel where the GM made high 5 figure. The director of sales base was some 25000 below that, but because of banquets and room revenue, she made well over the GM.
The down side is that the hours are really long, to include holidays and weekends. Also working with the public is NOT what it is all craked up to be. You may long for the criminals..........

Entry level probably not too much, but supervisory can pay well if you are in a upward going site. Hotel, restaurant and site managers are pretty well paid and often employ and promote based on job performance, more so than a degree in that.

I guess it depends on where you live -- I just got out of hospitality to come home to be with my 7 month old and I was an assistant executive housekeeper at a fairly large resort on the east coast and was making 28,000 a year with incentives. My boss though I would say she was making about 50,000 a year. And if you stay in the business a while you could most likely become a general manager and I would say they made 100,000 a year.

I think that the difficulty isn't how much your paid in hospitality management, but rather getting in a good position in hospitality management to make enough money. I don't think that there is one manager/director that doesn't have someone working under them just waiting for the opportunity to take their place. It also is a little bit of a political/backstabbing business. I got out because I didn't get a promotion; the boss's daugheter's sorority sister got the position I'd been working toward for a two years.
