Factory workers is a broad term because there are alot of kinds of factories. There is heavy manufacturing, light industrial,assembly/packaging,warehouse and machine shops. Some factory work can be dangerous such as steel mills or heavy equipment operators. While other manufacturing jobs have little physical labor, such as assembly and packaging .The pay ranges are dramatic too. There are very high paying positions that require much skill and training and also entry level unskillled work that pays very little.

A factory is usually assembly of some sort, or packaging, mass production. They ususally have a Union, Profit sharing bonus incentives and sick pay. Maybe 401K and Health and Dental Packages. Some pay Salary, others pay hourly or offer incentives for items produced or created and pay by the peice work
I worked in a screen door company based on completed screen doors per shift. Also one plant which poured shoe soles. Another checking Panty hose for runs and snags or irregularities.
Usually you will find a select group of individuals and a healthy mix of assorted ethnic.
wide age group, some have and keep senority positions
Some might prepare food, or slaughter/prepare meats/foods/vedg/fruit for resale
Others may bottle Juices or ship /distribute others' wares.
Most will have 3 8 hr (24 hr shifts) shifts, I ahve a brother that works in a factory making Shingles for houses (georgia Pacific and he works 4 day- 12hr shifts) and I have another Brother that worked in a Mrs. Pauls' plant, breading fish,
Now that brother who had worked for Mrs. Pauls runs the ink into computer fed processing Foil and Plastic wrappers for things like pop tarts and convenience foods. Many different jobs may be available per plant including office, HR, and of course Shift work.
