How do I keep from getting flustered when things come to me at the same time from all directions at work?
Asked by Flame
I get all nervous under pressure when people are waiting. I work at the front desk so it gets truly hectic from time to time with phone calls and people coming in needing attention.

If you're new at this job, then know that it will get easier as you gain more experience. If you've been doing the job awhile and still have this problem, then you should seriously rethink keeping this job. Not everybody is cut out for that type of work and maybe you need something where you can work at your own pace.
There are two things that help me when I feel pressure and frazzled....I remember the question "how do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." which helps me remember to take things one small step at a time. The other thing that sounds silly is sometimes when it's really hectic I literally forget to breathe at times. I'll find myself holding my breath or not breathing properly, so I remind myself to breathe. Just take a second, and take a couple of deep breaths. Even if you have to go into the bathroom or someplace quiet to do it. It really helps.
Good luck!!

a front desk person usually needs to know how to multi-task, and you seem to be having trouble multi-tasking.
You might want to consider changing your job
