I'm a satellite tv installer. My company holds insurance, but is trying to charge me for a damage claim.?
Asked by AmA
Can they legally charge me for that? I am quite sure (as are other people) that the homeowner is trying to scam our company. The claim was originally WELL over $14,000 and when my company counter offered them $1100, they quickly bit. That sounds like a scam to me. Now my employer is telling me they are going to payroll deduct the $1100. I am in Michigan. Can they do this? And if I don't agree to let them, can they fire me. If I get fired over this, would I have legal recourse against the company? I cannot afford to lose my job...not that anyone really can.....

Does your contract say that they can deduct from your salary? If not then they can not. Even if the contract say that they can deduct, they have to prove that you have done it intentionally. But if you do not want to lose job then best is not to fight rather negotiate with them for half the value and request the home owner to drop the claim.
