How does a person become an insurance agent?

What kind of training, certification, etc. does a person need in order to sell insurance through an agency?

You must be issued a license by the state you're living in. To be licensed you must complete a prescribed number of course hours, usually given by an 'insurance school'. One license, property and casualty, will allow you to sell automobile, homeowner's and renter's insurance, while another, life/health/accident will allow you to sell that product line. After passing the school's requirement and receiving a license in your state, then you must be appointed by an insurance company in order to sell their products.
