How would you approach this situation if you were the supervisor? What techniques would you use when speaking?

A supervisor asks a subordinate to change his or vacation plans in order to meet a production deadline on a major project. The subordinate knows that the project would have been on time if the supervisor had planned more carefully.

If I were the supervisor I would approach it this way: " I realize you are leaving on vacation. I sincerely need your help here. Things have fallen behind on the "blah blah" project. I need your help to complete it by the designated deadline. You know this is a major project. You will be rewarded if you can change your plans and dig in on this one. It would mean more to me than you will ever know."
