Asked by top shotta
I heard from some people that they hardly make enough to survive and i head from other people that they can make up to $100,000 a year or more if they have their own garage and everything they need.

It depends on a number of things...are you (they) ASE certified? How long have you (they) been doing this type of work? Do you (they) have a solid customer base? What part of the country are you (they) in? Etc. etc... You could check out www.lmi.state.(state initials).us/ for more info. EXAMPLE: www.lmi.state.oh.us then look up occupations. It will give you the average wage, plus high and low ends. If you own your own garage/tools, then yes you could do very well. Provided you (they) are an honest mechanic. In Ohio, the average is $8 - $25/hour.

It depends on location and job load!
