i'm an ex-military diesel mechanic who would like to continue working on military equipment as a civilian.
Asked by minstrelboy
i spent a year in iraq doing this for lear seigler services, and loved everything about it - except it was in iraq. all the job searches i've done on this all lead me back to the middle east. i'm not against going overseas, just not there. i'm familiar with hmmwv's, 2-1/2 tons, 5-tons, m-920's, hemtt's, fmtv's, cucv's, appropriate trailers and am also trained on the 5-ton abs conversion mods. i have the knowledge, i just lack connections. i've looked at kbr/halliburton and urs/lsi/eg&g's sites as well as through regular job search engines. am i missing something?

Wouldn't this also apply to big rigs as well such as Peterbuilt, Freightliner, KW, Mack, or maybe Boeing, Ford..... They are not necessarily Military but, ya never know.....Also you cannot always rely on applying online, in person still is sometimes the best way to get a foot in the door. In person also helps with building connections. Good Luck!!!!

Try the city garage, Mack Diesel, Cummins, etc. they always need someone who knows their stuff around diesels!
With that kind of background, you should be snapped up fast.
I would forget about the military things though, the contracts are bid and the lowest always wins, the employees are the losers though.

Any trucking company will hire you in an instant. If not because of your expertise, then your status as a veteran.
Think about dealerships and/or truck producing companies. They need diesel experts.
