How can I find a clerical job in Memphis -- Relocated from New York?

I just relocated to Memphis from New York with my fiance and twin daughters and I cannot for the life of me find a clerical job. Employers here are TOO concerned with a person's background. I could understand a criminal check, but what does a credit check have to with processing forms??? In any case, I'm desperate for REAL work. I'd be an Certified Microsoft Office User if I ever bothered to take the test. Help!
