You don't want to just consider the state (Florida and Nevada are great), but also keep in mind the branch hotel. For example Hilton and Marriott is both great chain hotels with lots of potential to excel and move around within the companies. I worked for a Hilton branch, Embassy Suites. There was constant room for moving up, and if I moved I had about 7 different hotel branches in that field (to name a couple-Hilton, Embassy, Country Inn, Waldorf, Millenium). Every branch offers the same benefits and you can move one from the other with the same credentials. Good luck it is a great field.

Nevada, Florida, California, New York are all tourist attractions with a lot of hotels to choose from. Keep in mind the wages for each state and cost of living. At an entry level position away from home you have to add in what the cost of living is before you make a choice.
I agree with the other poster about choosing a hotel with multiple locations that you can transfer to. Maybe start out with a chain in Michigan and once you get settled you can see what openings there are at other locations.
