Knotts Berry Farm or a Bank?
Asked by Frank
I'm a freshman in college, and I have the opportunity to work at either Knotts Berry Farm(theme park) or the East West Bank. On one hand working at knotts seems fun, but one the other working at a bank seems like a more lucrative job. I'm leaning towards Knotts because I want to have fun this summer and get to meet new people. On the other hand working at a bank seem somewhat boring and dull. What do you guys think?

Go with Knotts. I'm 54 years old and always took the path to a successful career. In retrospect I wish I had taken the "FUN PATH" on at least a few occasions. Enjoy life while you're young, meet new people (girls) try new things, live life and enjoy.

It could go either way! If your goals are to have fun and money is second...than you have already made up your mind. Knotts looks good on a resume since there's competition to work at places like that. However, you would get more business experience at the bank. Basically, you're a freshman...I wouldn't stress it. You have lots of time to get into the business world and get experience. Working with the public in the hot sun all day isn't exactly easy either.

It depends on what your job at KBF will be. If you are going to be in a Snoopy costume all day during a hot summer, then you might want to consider the bank. My advice is to figure out if you are more of an outdoors kind of person who likes to brave the elements, or are you more of an indoor person who doesn't mind the occasional bore. Look at both very practically, you could have fun at a bank with the right people and customers, and you could have a horrid time at a theme park picking up trash from frustrated and tired families.

Working at a theme park isn't all it's cracked up to be. Sure, there are some perks like free passes, but most of the time you'll be standing around sweaty and sunburned, performing a repetitive task and watching OTHER people have fun. Choose the bank. You'll probably have better pay and better hours, so spend some of that extra dough on a season pass to Knotts and have the best of both worlds.

Well, Knotts does seem like a fun job...but if it was me...I would think about how far I have to drive, how much I would be making, what kind of hours I want and possible health benefits...and then decide which would work better for me.
