How likely am I to make a full time career out of voice overs?
Asked by CutieTM
My broadcasting professors told me to make a demo and that I could make great money at voice work. I'm currently working on making my demo with a professional voice over artist now. I'm just curious as to how well other people do with this career. I'll probably obviously need a full-time career besides this right? Is it even possible, or will voice over work take up all of my time?

A lot of people in Los Angeles are very successful at it. A lot more are not. It's a very competitive industry.
It's essential that you join professional organizations and network and get a VERY good agent.

Most have a second job. But if you can think on your feet, consider being a radio deejay/announcer or go into broadcasting.

It is funny but I only remmeber hearing voice overs of actors and people who are generally known in the media. I did not know you could do that successfully and not be a known voice. I thought the advertiser would be relying on the fame of the actors voice to sell the goods. I cannot imagine it as a full time job otherwise you would be on every ad on the TV and radio. Maybe you could do audio books as a filler, they are not always read by the author.
