What should I do about my job?
Asked by Libra79
I have been a nurse for about 2 years...prior to that...I worked as a STNA for about 3 years at this nursing home (3rd shift). And mind you, after I became a certified nurse I still was working there as an aide waiting for a promotion as a nurse. A month went by back then...and still no promotion. So I put my notice in and went somewhere else to work. I have recently went back to the same nursing home for employment....and work as a nurse now on 2nd shift (which is not the shift I wanted but I needed a job) So I have been back there about 4 months now and it is totally different...they treat me so diff and bad now...Like after being there approx a month the DON and my immediate supervisor called me into there office and said that I needed to start doing better bc of complaints from the STNAs, another Nurse and a family member of a patient....and I can take criticism ok... (look down for continuation)
And the complaints were that I was going out to smoke too much with this particular nurse aid...which they swear I favor but i promise you I dont...she is just friendly and we talk sometimes. Another one was from the nurse aides saying that I dont help them and that I am giving them certain jobs to do that are out of there descrpition...which I dont, but I do ask them for help with procedures some times...and then the complaint that a family member said about me was that I was sitting at the desk charting and that they stood there..but I never agnolliged them or spoke with them when they wanted to talk with me....I didnt see them obviously or I would have..ya know? So ok...they wrote me up for that stuff....Well about another month went by and they called me in again to there office about favoring this nurse aide.....and I have a pretty good idea who is saying this about me...another nurse aide. But I am a very nice person to ppl and dont give anyone a hard time. (cont.)
I basically keep to myself and just do my job.....but I will tlak to you if you talk to me kinda thing..ya know? So.....I just couldnt believe that I was getting in trouble a 2nd time for this....They requested from me that I include the other aides in conversation and back myself away from the other one they were talking about.....I just dont understand why they think that me and this nurse aide are such good friends...I dont treat her any diff.....and even if we were friends so what?..Of course I cried bc I just couldnt belive this non-sense......and they then sent me back to work on the floor....I was upset and lost. But then.... my grandpa died and I had to take a day off work....well they made me make it up for calling off..I think that is shitty...dont you? I dont know what is it...but they just give me an unwelcomed feeling and I am not quite sure what to do about it. They believe this nurse aide over me too...when it comes to work..and this nurse aide was.......(cont)
employed there b4 when I was an aide there...could she be jealous? She also told the DON that she feels I leave my hall in an uproar and my patients are restless....more than when another nurse is on, that has worked there for 20 years......i dunno, I want to just call them and tell them to fuck off and just find another job...what do ya think?

a nursing home is a hard place to work.. been doing it for years.. just recenlty got hires as a home health nurse with better pay, better benifits and better hours.. you might want to check your employment options out.. sounds like they have a hard on for you and you wont have any peace as long as you work there.

Ah office politics, aint they grand? I agree with the above comments. You can try to bring your concerns to the DON and speak frankly with her, but I have the feeling things won't change. I think it's time to look through the want ads--nurses are in demand everywhere, and there is always the billing side of things. Good Luck!
