What should I expect when going for a job interview for a caring assistant in a nursing home?

I'm 17, about to leave school. I want to work at the nursing home for my gap year so I can save up to go abroad before going to university. I had elderly relatives who I wheeled about when I was younger though they are all deceased now. PLEASE ANSWER IN RELATION TO WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT THE JOB INTERVIEW, not the job.

expect a grilling!! they'll ask why you want to go into the care profession (obviously) and they'll probably ask what you'd do in certain scenarios. they'll want to know if you've had any previous experience around the elderly, as it can come as a shock. just stay level headed and take time to think through your answers, especially if they give you scenarios. good luck!! xxx

You should expect to work very hard, long hours for prob minimum wage in a dirty thankless (most of the time, at least from the management) job. Clients will be mostly nice with a few who may attack you, swear at you so on. The best bit is the job satisfaction. It will be nothing like wheeling your relatives about.

hello well your in for a shock as it's just not wheeling old people around. i used to work in a nursing home and my duties were taking them to the toilet and wiping the butts, bathing them, feeding dressing them helping them to take there tablets. sometimes old people are vilont and i've been hit, punched kicked and hot cups of tea threw over me but it's a very rewarding job and you'll enjoy it, good luck.
