Do you think that people with one eye should be able to drive a UPS truck?
Asked by ***Estonian Prince***
My dad works at UPS and he has one eye. They won't let him drive a UPS truck because of it. My dad is a really good driver and has never had a wreck in his 20 years of driving. My mom and dad have filed many lawsuits, but all of them were denied. What do you think?

I really don't think they could let him. The insurance aspect of it alone will probably prevent him from driving for them. My father has a lazy eye and they pretty much took his CDL just for that. I mean think about this, children are small, sneaky and very quick. I think you can understand where I am coming from, children make me very nervous when they are near the roads. I think your father would be at a disadvantage in that situation in particular. Be happy that he works for a good company that he should be able to retire from.
A:
no he shouldn't - he is physically impaired.

It depends. Has he been given a field of vision exam? In a lot of cases, the loss of vision in one eye distorts the field of perception and could be a liability for commercial driving. That's a rather crucial matter when driving. You need your 3-D vision in order to determine closeness to other objects. I'm sure your dad is an awesome driver but insurance companies often are not prepared to take the risk of accident because of "partial" vision. UPS is a commercial company. I'm sure they pay hefty premiums as it is.
