What are my chances of becoming a cashier for my first job?
Asked by Mr. Justin
Im about to turn 16 in May and I'm looking into becoming an accountant/bussiness manager in the future ... and I heard cashier jobs are good jobs to have while a teen. But what are my chances of actually GETTING a cashier job when I have never worked before? I'm very good in handling money, I have managed Garage Sales, things like that in the past. I've done my parents taxes ... What should I tell the employer are my skills??? Thanks for the help

Your chances are quite good.
First you should make a resume. Even though you haven't had a job yet, its an indespensable tool to list your qualifications and experience. You can list the skills you've aquired handling money previously as well as your interests (accounting/business) and future eduactional goals. This is something your high school counselor can help you with.
Secondly, make a list of anyone you know who works in the retail field. These contacts can help you get yout foot in the door to a job you'll enjoy. Your chances of getting hired are multiplied when someone you know recommends you to their boss, and some companies have recruitment rewards for their employees who do so.
Third, make sure you are properly ready for your interview. Rehearse beforehand with a friend or a parent some of the likely questions. This will help boost your confidence. Have an outfit ready that presents you in a professional light. It doesn't have to be a suit, but nice ironed clothing in essential to being considered as a prosective employee.
Lastly, remember your manners, speak clearly and remain true to yourself. You don't need to guess the right answers to questions, just answer honestly. Ask any questions you might have as well. Its best to get it out in the open. At the close of the interview, thank the interviewer for their time and ask when you can expect to hear back from them. Without any formal experience all you can give them is a good impression!
Best of Luck to you!!
