Increment is generally given to offset the cost of living so that your real wage does not come down due to inflation.Your MD is not doing any philanthropy. The MD's are in a difficult situation; they had to handle knowledge workers;they cannot use the workers as serfs. As a young man as you want to come up in the ladder you want to work hard and by that you have increased the expectation of your boss and he is becoming more demanding. My advice if yiou are a married man you should not work more than 8 hrs a day.Your primary duty is to look after the family. There is a possibility that you will get burnout if you do not follow my advice. At the end of your service career you will find everything was an illusion as stated in GITA.
My own experience in life.
