I'm a new medical lab tech and while im currently training during the day ill will soon be switching over to graveyard shift )10:00 pm through 6:30 am. Just wondering if anyone has any good tips for me to prepare for this transition and such as good ways to stay asleep during the day (my biggest concern) and how to start planning with this new sleep cycle

I have blackout fabric on my windows so I can make the room dark. I also have a fan running to circulate air as well as to block out some noises. It works best for me that when I get home, I have something light to eat such as fruit or yogurt. Something to keep me from getting hungry during my sleep time. Then I go to bed and sleep 6 - 8 hours. Then I still have the late afternoon and evening to do things with family and friends.

you should stay up all day then go to your shift(10pm-6:30am) and when you get home ..you'll want to sleep. this should star your new sleep cycle.Good luck!

With experience, I will suggest that you turn your ringer off and tell your friends about your work situation...... good luck! :)
