How long does hiring process take at State government?

With the State governments, do their hiring process typically take as long as Federal government? Is applying more than one time for one position desirable with a State government?

It depends on how badly they want to fill the position........The manager in charge can push hard to hire somebody if they want them bad enough, but if not you could be waiting a long time.........

It can drag on for months sometimes.

When the State posts a job ad, they have to keep it open for a month before they start reviewing applications so it can take a month before they even call you for an interview. Thats how it is in VA at least.
