What are the best ways to make people want to hire you for babysitting?
Asked by Erin C
Hi. I am 12 years old and would like to start babysitting.I have some questions about it:
1.How do I ask people if I can babysit because I can't just walk up to someone and say can I babysit your child. Plus I know that I shouldent babysit for people I don't know.
2. I know that learning CPR is a good thing to learn before babysitting. But, what are some other things I should know?
Thanks!

Things I consider when I give my kids away to babysitters.
Where will they be watched. If your 12 and your watching my kids at your house where your parents are there anyways, I might consider you.
That you will be watching my kids. Ive heard young babysitters mentioned that they will be watching my kids with the help of there friends. I dont know there "friends" and I do not trust them watching my kids. How do I know your friends wont distract you from my kids?
Thats all I can think off. Best thing you can do to attract potential clients is to just ask around. Use the many methods that are mentioned by the above members.
Good Luck.

You should have your parents ask around at their jobs if anyone needs a babysitter on some weekend nights and then have them bring the child to your home... so you'll have your parents there for the first few times...also some counties offer special babysitting classes to help you get started.. but anyway back to the first customers you have...nothing is better than word of mouth...

Well, you should find people through your parents that have younger children and then you, your parents, and that family can get together and have dinner or something like that. You can meet the kids and if they like you, be real nice, and discretely bring up the idea of babysitting. And CPR is nothing, it's how to make peanut butter and jelly that matters. Seriously.

Ask your parents to put up bulletins at work. Also put up bulletins in any organization you belong to (such as a church.)
On your bulletin:
Do you have any experience with children? Be sure to put how much experience you have as well as examples of your maturity (i.e. you can cook, you keep the house clean).
If you've babysat before, ask them if you may use them as references, and then state that you have references on your bulletin.
People are always looking for reliable babysitters. They may just now know you are wanting to babysit. One thing I've done is make a "business card." Put your name and phone number on it and the word "babysitter." (or something similar.)
Good luck!

You're kind of young but you could.
1. Print out and distribute flyers or place curb/corner signs around working people's neighborhoods(always works). Don't forget to add your phone# or email address.
2. Be available when they call or ask to leave a message.
3. Price them reasonably. Find out what other people/day cares charge. Offer a competitive rate!
4. Tell them how much you love kids and your experience(if any).
They may be hesitant when finding out your age but if you seem responsible and smart enough they'll trust you.
Good luck!

start with neighbors and family, and once they think you are a good babysitter then they will tell their friends. a good babysitter plays with the kids, doesn't pig out on the food and is available when needed even, if it means cancelling plans to go to movies with your friends. also parents don't like to be phoned every ten minutes unless its really important.
ps parents will generally tell you what they want to pay and you can accept, decline or negotiate, but i personally don't recommend stating a rate. (usually you get more than you thought that way)
oh and one more thing parents hate coming home to a house thats messier than when they left! make it cleaner than when they left for extra points
