How can i meet someone important in the fashion industry?

I am trying to get noticed in the fashion world so i can become a stylist/cosmetologist/fashion designer, but i just don't know how to do it. I live in California and i'm planning on going to a fashion school next year. I was inspired by Lauren Conrad(the hills), she got an opportunity that rarely comes. I guess it's really not what you know, but who you know.

Go to fashion week and sneak into a runway show. It's not hard to talk the people to let you in. Lots of important fashion industry people will be there. Don't be a pest but if given the chance introduce yourself to some people Friends of mine have gotten internships from doing this If you can't sneak in hang out right outside the show

Find a current liberal social issue, make 100 picket signs and travel to Washington DC. You'll find many of them yelling and making asses of themselves about one thing or another in between runway events.
