Where are welding jobs more plentiful and best paying?
Asked by momofthreemiracles
My husband is a welder currently working in Lansing, MI. But we're looking for a change and don't want to be in MI anymore. In what state would be a good place to look into career wise for him while I go to school?
Currently he's non-union welding parts for military hummers.

The Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington is almost always hiring and the cost of living isn't near what California or the east coast is...but it rains 110 inches per year there...it's in a rainforest. Also, there is high demand and very good wages for welders in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but it's a little pricier for houses there.

He could go to Texas - that state is BOOMING right now. With all the oil riggs down there he could probably get hired. If he is in the Union - he could transfer his book down there also. Only thing if he is a union welder - the pay scale in Michigan is the BEST in the nation, get ready to take a pay cut where every he goes.
From what the paper says here in MI, Montana is also taking all car plant people that have lost their jobs.
Good Luck!
